New Blog!
Yes, a new blog. I never really liked the title of this one, even though it was a reference to my favorite piece of jewelry ever. =P
This is my new blog. (Death Cab for Cutie, anyone?) I will not be posting on Silverpolarbears again.

Cheerfully Drowning A.S. Members
Early last month, UCSB’s Associated Students, or A.S., decided to use student funds (in them midst of this exasperating UC money crisis) to pay for a retreat to Villa Antonio in Los Osos. Pretty douche-y, right?
That would, in all honesty, be all it would take to annoy me. But then, come to find out that they violated their rental contract and trashed the place.
Now, trashing a rental is...

I’m back on Tumblr, mostly thanks to Lauren, but we’ll see how long it lasts. It might not for long, if I can’t figure out how to either just deal with the whole design of my blog or fiddle around until I make one. Or something.
I really like the flowers, though. :)

Wow. It’s still Monday.
I really wouldn’t be surprised if the very last week of the year was the one that did me in.

Mingling
I’m quite terrible at it. Not only is it hard, but exhausting as well. If I could find the privacy, I would probably start making a pathetic keening noise and curl up into a ball on the floor until either my moment of privacy ended or I felt better. Chances are that my moment of privacy would end before I felt better. Downside of living in a dorm.

A bit too insane
It is eleven forty-eight PM right now. I’m kind of sad—excepting a twenty minute dash through my room, gathering up materials I’d need for my third class today, I haven’t been back to my room since nine-thirty this morning. That’s waaayy too long. Is it possible to be homesick when you’re only about a hundred yards away? I’m almost ready to go back,...

Beloved Backpack
I just got a good whiff of the inside of my backpack. It smells like a mix of old, sweaty, soccer stuff and chocolate chip cookies. I hope the cookie I carried in it yesterday doesn’t smell like nasty soccer gear. I was really looking forward to eating it.

Every Sunday Frank uploads a new round of annonymous secrets people all across the country have written on postcards and sent to him.
Every time he posts one that speaks to me in some way, I save it on my computer. I have a whole file just for those ones.
This week, I saved three.

Uh-oh...
My roommate broke her headband.
I lent her my superglue to fix it.
The first thing I said to her as I handed it over was, “Be careful not to glue your fingers together. It really can happen.”
She said, “Okay!” and proceeded to glue her headband back together.
I turned around and went back to chatting with my friend online for a few minutes.
Then I hear my roommate go,...

City of Ashes
I biked to Borders today. I spent four and a half hours there, rereading a book I own: City of Ashes, by Cassandra Clare.
My mother came up from San Diego to visit me this weekend for Mother’s Day. I’d asked her to bring it with when she came, but she forgot. But it’s all right. She remembered to bring my favorite stuffed animal.
Yes, I have many traits common to...

A Secret Chord
Reading is my escape. I don’t have time for pleasure reading like I used to, but every time I make time, when the story ends it’s like coming up for air in a warm pool. It’s pleasant under the water, and peaceful, and sometimes even blissfully wonderful, but that first breath after coming up tastes a little more precious than the previous.
I like...

Hoo, boy...
I definitely have an ant investation in my room. But it’s okay, my amazing roomate (codename: Danielle) and I are handling it.
But I think… I’m almost afraid to say it… I think—I think we have a termite infestation, too.
That would really just make this weekend unforgetable. Mother’s Day, Jesusita fire and watching the evacuation zone spread, ants, FINALLY...

A Single Silver Polar Bear
I tend to wear a lot of jewelry. Sort of, anyway—my mother never wears any, so I grew up being told that I wear a ton of jewelry. And maybe it’s true. Up until recently, I would wear, at the very least, four rings and a necklace every day. That was the minimum. Sometimes I’d wear more than one necklace, and sometimes I would add a few bracelets.
In seventh grade, I took a...

Wolverine
“Wolverine”—the newest X-Men movie—was painfully mediocre. It was entertaining, to be sure, but the cheese level in some scenes left me quite disappointed. I’m not going to spoil it, because I feel like it’s still worth seeing, but… hm. You know.
This week is exhausting. I’ve nearly decided that on some deep, twisted level, I just like to be...

Death Cab for Cutie
Why they gave us our free concert in the middle of midterms week, I doubt I’ll ever know. I like to think they—A.S. or whoever was in charge of putting everything together—didn’t get a choice, because I hate to think that such stupid people were in charge of putting everything together.
Anyway, I did go—thought mostly because it was free and I’d already gotten...

It's Far Too Early
I have discovered Forever the Sickest Kids. I saw them at Bamboozle Left 2+ weeks ago, in Irvine with a friend, and that friend and I had an AIM date tonight and she sent me all their music. They’re great.
I should go to bed.

Friday's Adventure
So after my last class on Friday (“Fantasy and the Fantastic”) my friend (codename: Gabi) and I… well, long story short, we ended up writing a story together on the whiteboard in th theater and dance lecture hall. :)
I started the first entry, and every line break denotes a switch in authors. It’s primitive and silly, but pure. There really aren’t words for how...

My parents' child
I left my laptop charger cord in the Solvang hotel, plugged in under the desk. Ugh. It’s times like this that convinces me I really am my parents’ kid. They do plenty of absentminded stuff like this.
Thankfully, my marvelous roommate (secret codename: Dani) has a mac and is nice enough to let me borrow her charger. God bless good roommates. =P

Playing the Tourist
My family came to visit me on Thursday, and this morning we all piled into the RAV-4 and drove up to Solvang. (FYI: riding in the back of a RAV-4 is not as comfortable as one might think.)
Now, I’m from San Diego. We complain about and make fun of tourists every year, practically all year round. Not usually in any seriousness-it’s generally only when we end up behind somebody with...

Fondness
I’m quite fond of quotes. I like how the quotes that we preserve are the ones that sound pretty and flow well and generally mean something. (This is not, by any means, to say that I don’t enjoy fun or silly quotes.) I think the way people have managed to string things together is… well, fun, even when they’re sad or too deep to bring any real contentment or happiness.
